What to Do Right Now 

Knocked‑out tooth

  • Handle by the crown, not the root

  • Rinse gently if dirty; do not scrub

  • Reinsert into socket if possible; otherwise store in milk or saliva

  • Seek care within 60 minutes if possible
     

Severe toothache / swelling

  • Rinse with warm salt water

  • Use a cold compress externally; avoid heat

  • Do not place aspirin on gums or tooth

  • Call for an urgent exam; may indicate infection
     

Broken or loose tooth/filling

  • Save any pieces

  • Cover sharp edges with dental wax or sugar‑free gum

  • Eat soft foods; avoid the area

  • Schedule repair to prevent further damage
